Work: Is This The “New Normal”?
o As restrictions with COVID continue to ebb and flow, it seems there is more flexibility in the workplace and where people will work. Some employers are pushing to return to the office either full time or hybrid while some positions are now fully remote. If you are feeling anxious about changes to your work schedule, read on.
o Some tactics that may help ease your nerves would be to plan out your day. By using time blocking or just a regular calendar, calculate your commute, time to get ready and when you need to start work as your base. Next, think about things you can do the night before that might be helpful. Could you grab an outfit, assess if you’ll be taking lunch or your coffee, what about packing your work bag and putting it by the front door.
o On the other hand, if you will be working fully remote- some things to consider: what time of day are you most productive? Would answering emails first thing in the morning be helpful, or after your first meeting? What do you find yourself distracted by in your home or office? Try closing the door or creating a visual barrier for yourself to separate from the rest of your home.
o No matter where you work from, a few helpful tips are: to keeping track of your to-do list for the next day- write these down and let go of them once you stop working. Lastly, focus on getting good quality sleep- how much sleep anyone needs differs, but getting some quality shut eye will help your mood, energy and focus.
